After more than 20 rewarding years in the property development industry, my ultimate goal is to offer clear, practical advice to help you navigate this complex field with confidence. Today, I’d like to take a moment to introduce myself and share how I can support you on your own journey in property development.
Building your knowledge
brick by brick.
Let’s go back to the beginning. My father was a carpenter, and when I was 16, I started helping him out on job sites on the weekends to earn some extra pocket money. I quickly became fascinated by the process of building something from the ground up. That hands-on experience sparked my passion for property development.
Today, that passion has grown into a purpose: helping people by creating housing that’s not only high-quality but also affordable. From choosing the right location and materials to collaborating with architects on the best designs, the entire process is incredibly rewarding. Knowing that our work can positively impact communities for decades is what first attracted me to the industry 20 years ago—and it’s what still motivates me every day.
Today, my passions lie in helping people and providing necessary housing that is not only of a high quality, but affordable as well.
If you're just starting out in property development, the path you take will depend on your background and where you see yourself fitting into the industry.
If you’re coming from a trade or TAFE background, my advice is to start small and get hands-on experience. Learn as much as you can on the job, build your skills over time, and use that foundation to grow into the role you aspire to.
If you’ve come through university and entered the industry via a larger company, take full advantage of the structure and systems around you. Study their processes, absorb as much knowledge as possible, and use that experience as a launchpad for your own development journey.
Remember, the property development landscape is constantly evolving, and adaptability is key. The more environments you immerse yourself in, the more versatile and well-rounded your skill set becomes—setting you up for success if and when you choose to strike out on your own.
I hope these blogs offer valuable insights and guidance to support your growth, whether you're just getting started or looking to expand your career in this ever-changing industry.
